Otto Piene (1928–2014) was an artist who was fond of experimentation and transgressive approaches to art like no other. As a cofounder of the international ZERO movement, in the 1960s he was already decisive in expanding classical forms of art like painting or sculpture.
While the large-scale slide project The Proliferation of the Sun was restaged at Neue Nationalgalerie, Deutsche Bank KunstHalle showed Piene’s earlier works, including light prints and drawings, smoke paintings, and light sculptures.
On July 19, a spectacular Sky Art Event took place outside Neue Nationalgalerie as part of the exhibition project.
